Tall meadow rue grows in wet prairies, wet meadows, at the margins of marshes, peatlands, lakes and streams, and in ditches. It grows on moist or wet, rich mineral soil, black organic soil, and sedge peat. It reproduces mostly by seed. It can get quite large if given enough room.
